Getting started

You've been invited 🎟️

Someone is sharing their NotPlex media server with you. Here's how to start watching — it takes about five minutes, and the only thing you need is the email address they invited.

1

Create your account

Create a free account using the exact email address the server owner invited. That email is how their server recognizes you — a different address won't see anything.

Not sure which email they used? Ask them — it's whatever address they typed when they shared their library with you.
2

Watch in your browser

Sign in and you'll land on your dashboard. The shared server appears there automatically with a green dot when it's online. Hit ▶ Open web player and browse — nothing to install.

Your watch progress, watchlist, and "continue watching" all sync, so you can stop on one device and pick up on another.

3

Put it on your TV

Fire TV: install the Downloader app from the Amazon Appstore. You'll need to allow it to install apps: Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options → Install unknown apps → enable for Downloader. Then open Downloader and enter:

notplex.app/static/builds/notplex.apk

Google TV / Android TV: same idea — install "Downloader by AFTVnews" from the Play Store and use the same URL.

The app keeps itself updated after this — it's a one-time setup.

4

Sign in on the TV

Open the NotPlex app and sign in with your account. Typing a password with a remote is miserable, so there's a shortcut:

  • On the TV, choose Sign in with a code — it shows a 6-character code.
  • On your phone or computer, open your dashboardLink a TV → type the code.
  • The TV signs itself in a moment later.
OR

Just enter your email and password directly on the TV — both work.

Once you're in, the shared server connects automatically. Press play. 🍿

If something's not working

"I signed in but there's no server on my dashboard"

The invite email and your account email don't match, or the owner hasn't shared yet. Confirm the exact address with them and ask them to share (or re-share) a library with it. It appears within a minute of them sharing — try signing out and back in if it doesn't.

"The server shows offline"

The owner's server is off or lost its connection — nothing is wrong on your end. It'll flip back to a green dot when it comes back.

"The Downloader app says it can't install"

The "install unknown apps" permission from step 3 wasn't enabled for Downloader. On Fire TV it's under Settings → My Fire TV → Developer Options; on Google TV it's Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions.

"A video won't play in my browser"

Give it a few seconds — some formats are converted on the fly by the server, which takes a moment to start. If it never starts, tell the server owner which title failed.

Anything else

Ask the person who invited you — they're your server's admin.
