Transcoding
Server-side video transcoding for remote/incompatible playback. Runs on this server's CPU — lower the ceiling or the preset if it can't keep up.
Master switch. When off, all playback is direct-stream only (some remote or incompatible files may not play).
Ceiling for transcoded streams. Clients may request lower; they can't exceed this.
Peak video bitrate ceiling for transcoded streams.
Faster presets use less CPU (recommended for real-time) but produce larger files at the same quality.
Lower = better quality & larger. 18–28 is the useful range; 23 is a good default.
Offloads encoding to the Intel GPU — roughly 40% less CPU per stream, so more people can watch at once. Requires an Intel GPU; falls back to software automatically if unavailable. Note: the bitrate cap above doesn't apply on the hardware path (it uses the quality setting instead), and quality per bitrate is slightly lower than software.
